About

Why?

First off, I want to make it clear that this is not a site promoting some diet that everyone should follow. We are all a little different, we have slightly different metabolisms, genetic makeup and so on, yet, the evidence is very clear that what we eat has a huge impact on our health, mental well being, environment, how and often when we die.

There is no doubt that modern medicine has helped extend our lives much longer by getting rid of disease and infections that were killing us off many years ago, now heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the biggest cause of early death. They are manageable with modern medicine,  scientific evidence would suggest these deaths and the huge costs associated with managing them would be avoidable if we simply ate well. We will die, thats a given, but those years before we die wont be full of pills with bad side affects and expensive hospital bills. Eating well has the potential to make a positive impact on the global climate crisis, economy and overall well being of all humans.

I want my last 10 or more years to be has happy as my first 10 years, eating well will allow for this.

For the record, I changed my diet to be plant based in 2017. The thought of not having meat and dairy was strange to me at the time, but the turning point was a speech by Philip Wollen, part of a debate in Australia in 2012 on whether Animals should be off the table, you can watch it here.

Since then, I have not missed meat, have had no cravings for bacon and most certainly do not feel I am losing out on anything. I have never felt healthier and am probably fitter and stronger than I have ever been (in 2017 I was doing Triathlons and still am).

That all said, if you want to add meat to any of these recipes, don't let me stop you, the only thing I ask is that you make every effort to know where the meat comes from. Factory farmed chicken, beef or pork thats been injected with anti-biotics, genetically modified or ultra processed in some way has no place in this world and will never be part of an eat well diet. Truly grass fed, ideally ethically raised meat, fine go for it. All I would ask is that it be in moderation, humans are omnivores, just like our chimpanzee cousins, and last I checked they are not having bacon for breakfast, ham sandwiches for lunch and roast beef for dinner every day. Meat on occasion, and good meat, dont let these recipes stop you.

What?

I’m no chef, I like to cook and I like to make things from scratch, but I don’t want to be spending hours and hours in the kitchen or spending a small fortune on good food. Food should taste great, be enjoyed with others and not be too long or complicated to make.

I’ve put together recipes I have made and enjoyed with my children and friends over the years, they are all easy,  myself and children find them delicious, I hope you all do too.
