No joke, I have done this twice and have not bought vanilla extract or essence for about 5 years.

• Take out (maybe drink) about a shot of vodka from the bottle
• Put about 6 or 10 vanilla pods (slice down the centre, but don't remove the seeds) into the bottle
• Screw the cap on and leave for about 2-3 months

After that time, you will be able to use this for any baking that requires some vanilla extract.

Yes its vodka, but you will find that pure vanilla extract is an alcohol and vanilla.

The cost of pure vanilla extract (as you will see in the below link) is a lot for 100ml, but you can make about 700ml at home for 3x less (will leave you to do the maths as it depends on the quality of the vddka)

This is a win win
